# How do I Change a Battery in a Vista-20SE Security System?
The back-up battery for the Vista-20SE Home Security System is used to keep the alarm powered in case of a power outage. Batteries for this security system typically last between four and six years before they need to be changed. You will know when it needs replacing when a low-battery warning appears on the alarm system's control panel screen.

Go to the alarm's control cabinet and remove the panel.

Take out the battery by disconnecting the red and black wires that it is hooked up to and then pulling it out.

Place the replacement battery in the control cabinet. Connect the red wire with the positive battery terminal and the black wire with the negative battery terminal. Put the panel back on the alarm's control cabinet.
