How to Wire a DSC Motion Detector

DSC motion detectors can be added to a DSC alarm panel to detect motion inside a building or house. They use infrared sensors to detect movement and combine infrared technology with microwave technology to prevent pets from tripping the alarm. The detectors can also block out any electrical interference that might cause the system to activate. Some models of DSC motion detector can also detect the sound of glass breaking in case an intruder tries to gain entry through a window.

Instructions

    • 1

Mount your motion detector in the spot that you would like it and run the wire to the location of the alarm panel.

    • 2

Disconnect all power sources to your alarm system by removing any wires connected at the spot labeled "AC" on your alarm panel and unplugging them from the wall. Disconnect the battery backup and any telephone lines that are connected to the system.

    • 3

Strip 1 to 2 inches of covering off the end of the motion detector wire to expose the four smaller wires inside. Strip about 5 mm of covering off each of the four smaller wires to expose the conductive ends.

    • 4

Use your flat head screwdriver to loosen the screw above where it says "AUX RED" or "AUX +" on your alarm panel. Insert the end of your red wire under the screw and gently tighten it.

    • 5

Loosen the screw that is labeled "AUX BLACK" or "AUX -" and insert the black wire under the screw on your alarm panel. Tighten the screw once the wire is inserted.

    • 6

Loosen the screw for the zone you wish to connect the motion detector to as well as the corresponding "COM" screw. There is one "COM" connection spot for every two zones and it is located in between the two zones to which it corresponds.

    • 7

Insert the green wire under the screw labeled "COM" and the yellow wire under the zone screw that you decided to use. Tighten both of the screws to secure the wires in place.

    • 8

Reconnect the power, backup battery and telephone lines to your system and power it up. Your motion detector will power up and be ready for programming.
