The entire security system is based on the master code. The master code arms and disarms the security system while allowing you to change other settings on the keypad. The installer gives you a factory generated four-digit code.
Ask the installer to program your system to allow you to change the master code. The first master code that he programs into your ADT security keypad will be provided by the company. Any subsequent master codes can be whatever you change them to as long as the technician has given you access.
Pick a number that is in no way associated with you so that burglars can't guess your master code by rummaging through your garbage. Avoid common choices like birthdays, anniversaries and phone numbers.
Press the * key on the keypad while it is in the "disarmed mode" to begin entering in your own master xode. Punch in the original master code when prompted. Scroll through via the arrows until you find "user code" and press * again. Enter the new four-digit code. Three beeps indicate the change was successful.
