Ademco Motion Detector Wiring

Ademco motion detectors protect your home from intruders. The motion detector senses any motion that enters its field of range and triggers the home alarm, alerting to a possible intruder. Most motion detectors can be swapped into any alarm platform regardless of brand as they all usually follow the same wiring scheme. The in-wall wiring of the alarm system is usually installed by the alarm company, and if you need to replace a faulty motion detector you can use the cables they left in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old motion detector that you are replacing. Use the screwdriver to remove the plate and unscrew the wires. Pull the motion detector off the wall, taking care not to damage the cables.

    • 2

Place the new motion detector in the same location as the old one. Insert the alarm wires through the opening in the center of the motion detector. Secure the motion detector with the screwdriver and screws to the wall.

    • 3

Connect the power cables. Connect the red or black cable from the wall to the red or black wire in the alarm. If there is more than one power cable coming from the wall, for example one red and one black, and there is only one power cable from the motion detector, connect only the black cable and tape the other one with electrical tape. The wire colors are interchangeable and the color scheme can vary.

    • 4

Connect the remaining yellow or green cable from the wall to the remaining cable in the motion detector. Secure the cable in place with the screwdriver.

    • 5

Turn on the alarm and test to make sure it is working. If the alarm is not working, make sure the cables did not come loose. Once working, push the cover onto the motion detector.
