Go to the fuse box and remove the fuse or trip the circuit breaker for the electric line that supplies power to the wiring where the motion detector light was previously located. Place a ladder against the wall of the garage, if the motion detector light was installed previously above the garage door.
Remove the screws from the cover plate that is covering the electrical junction box in the wall with a Phillips screwdriver. Place the cover plate aside. Remove any strips of electrical tape that are covering the exposed ends of the wires inside the electrical junction box.
Strip an additional 1/2 inch of insulation off the ends of the wires attached to the back panel of the motion detector light with a wire strippers.
Twist the exposed end of the red wire that is attached to the motion detector light around the black wire that is also attached to the light. Twist these two wires around the exposed end of the black wire that is in the electrical junction box. Twist a screw tab on the ends of these wires with a clockwise motion.
Twist the exposed end of the white wire that is attached to the light around the white wire that is in the electrical junction box. Twist a screw tab on the ends of these wires with a clockwise motion.
Twist the end of the bare copper wire that is attached to the light around the bare copper wire that is in the electrical junction box. Wrap strips of electrical tape around the ends of the two wires to insulate them from the other wiring.
Push the wiring into the electrical junction box. Place the waterproof gasket cover that comes with the motion detector light onto the electrical junction box. Place the cover plate back on and screw it down. Place the back of the motion detector light against the cover plate. Screw metal screws through the motion detector light and into the cover plate. Insert a bulb into the bulb socket of the motion detector light. Return power to the electric line.
