Do it Yourself: How to Install a Mini Security in My Home

Protecting your home when away requires a security system that is intelligent enough to detect an intruder and call for help unaided. A Do-It-Yourself (DIY) security system can be put together with the Mini alarm home security system, which will provide protection for a door or window or any area of your home. The Mini alarm home security system will use your telephone line to contact help at any number you program into it (police, a neighbor, etc.). A few tools are needed for the installation, as is a telephone cable, which can be acquired from a hardware store or a hobby shop. No fees need to be paid to anyone once the Mini alarm home security system has been installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Mini alarm home security's keypad control panel facedown on a work surface. Unscrew the screw holding the battery compartment lid for the AA battery compartment to the back of the control panel -- use a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to do this. Repeat this procedure with the screw holding the battery compartment lid for the 9-volt battery compartment.

    • 2

Insert four AA batteries and a 9-volt battery into their respective battery compartments. Place the battery compartment lids on the battery compartments and screw them back onto the back of the control panel.

    • 3

Turn the control panel over. Follow the directions provided in the instruction manual to enter a phone number into the auto-dialer function. Follow the directions provided in the instruction manual to record a short message onto the digital recording machine built into the control panel.

    • 4

Screw the control panel to a wall next to a telephone using wood screws and a Phillips screwdriver -- you can also place the control panel on a table or desk that is next to a telephone.

    • 5

Remove the telephone handset from the telephone base station. Turn the telephone's base station over. Press the modular plug's tab and pull it out of the socket in the bottom of the base station. Plug the modular plug into the "Tel in" socket on the control panel. Plug one end of a modular telephone cable into the "Tel out" socket on the control panel. Plug the other end of the cable into the socket on the bottom of the base station.

    • 6

Turn the base station right side up. Place the handset back on the base station.

    • 7

Plug the modular plug at the end of the included sensor cable into the control panel. Place the sensor at the other end of the sensor cable on the floor in front of a window or doorway or an area that you want to monitor against intrusion.

Press the "Arming" button on the included key fob that comes with the Mini alarm home security system to activate the system -- you should do this prior to leaving the home. Press the "Disarm" button on the key fob prior to entering the home to disarm the system.
