What Wireless Security Systems Work With the X-10 Systems?

X10 is both a company producing home automation systems and a standard, produced by that company, which uses the electric wiring system in a house to transmit information.
  1. Features

    • Despite using the electric wiring system, the X10 standard is termed "wireless" because it does not require special separate network cabling. In addition to its own X10 standard, the company also produces wireless systems using radio frequencies.

    Examples

    • The overall security package produced by X10 is called Protector Plus. The elements in the package are also available separately. These elements include door and window sensors to detect opening, and motion sensors. The alarm mechanism in X10 systems is implemented by a wireless speaker that sounds an alarm and wireless receivers for light sockets. An alarm situation causes the enabled lights to flash.

    Alternatives

    • ADT systems are not compatible with the X10 system. Their alarm packages follow the Powerline standard. ADT equipment is not compatible with X10 networks. Guardian Protection Services and Protect America's hardware also is not compatible with X10.
