Connecting a Siren to a Wireless Home Security System

A wireless home security system is designed to report any transgression -- an entranceway into the home being forced open, for example -- to the control panel that monitors all of the system's functioning. Connecting a siren to an existing wireless home security system requires the addition of wireless modules that are supplied as accessories for the wireless home security kit that was purchased earlier. The siren, which is powered by the home's electric line, will also need to be mounted to a wall of the home so that the siren can call out to everyone inside -- waking them up to alert them of an intrusion.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on a location to mount the siren -- a wall high up will require the use of a ladder. Plug the power cord into an extension cord and the extension cord into a wall outlet for power.

    • 2

Open the control panel lid on the wireless transmission module. Set the "house-code" to "H" and the "number-code" to "9" -- if these codes are already taken, select codes that are not taken.

    • 3

Loosen the two screws on the wireless transmission module with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver -- if there are no screws and wires are permanently attached to the module, ignore this step.

    • 4

Wind the already-stripped ends of the two wires attached to the back of the siren around one of the screws each on the wireless transmitter module and tighten them with the Phillips screwdriver -- if there are no screws on the module, wrap the exposed end of one of the wires from the module around one of the wires from the siren and the same with the other wires on each. Wrap a strip of electrical tape around each pair of wires.

    • 5

Attach the siren to the wall. Thread wood screws through the holes in the brackets on each side of the siren and into the wall using a Phillips screwdriver. Mount the module to the wall next to the siren in the same manner.

    • 6

Go to the control panel for the wireless home security system. Disarm the system by entering the password into the control panel. Select the menu that will allow you to add the wireless transmission module's code into the system, and enter it. Change the configuration of the settings so that an intrusion will trigger the siren. Return to the main menu. Rearm the control panel and hence the wireless home security system.
