How to Replace an Ademco 6148

Ademco manufactures alarm systems for homes and businesses. The 6148 is a remote keypad that attaches to an alarm control panel to monitor each zone up to thirty on the alarm system. The keypad displays information on a light emitting diode (LED) screen. There are manual functions to activate silent or audible emergency alarms and call for personal emergencies or fire alarms. Replacing this alarm keypad takes only a few minutes and requires no special tools or skills.

Instructions

      Turn the circuit breaker to the alarm control panel off.

      Press both bottom tabs inward on the bottom of the keypad and lift the front of the keypad to remove it.

      Insert a screwdriver into the terminal screw with the green wire underneath it. Loosen the screw counterclockwise and pull the wire out from under the screw. Repeat this process to remove the black, red and yellow wires.

      Insert a screwdriver in the mounting screws and turn each one counterclockwise to loosen them. Pull each screw straight out. Pull the key pad straight off the wall.

      Feed the four wires through the hole in the back of the new keypad. Insert the mounting screws and attach them to the wall in the same screw holes. Tighten the screws clockwise.

      Loosen the four terminal screws counterclockwise but do not remove them.

      Slide the green wire under the "..G" terminal screw and tighten it clockwise with a screwdriver. Tighten the black wire under the "-" terminal, the red wire under the "+" and the yellow wire under the "..Y" terminal screw in a clockwise direction.

      Align the cover on the keypad and press it on.

      Turn the circuit breaker to the alarm control panel on.
