How to Add Sounds to a Motion Sensor

A motion sensor closes an electrical circuit that, typically, illuminates a floodlight or other type of incandescent bulb. To add sounds to the motion sensor every time it activates -- providing an aural warning -- install a buzzer that will also receive electricity from the circuit's closing. A few supplies from a electronics shop are needed, as are some tools found around the house.

Things You'll Need

  • AC light adapter
  • 120 volt buzzer
  • Wire strippers
  • Ruler
  • AC plug
  • Phillips screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the floodlight/incandescent bulb from the socket on the motion sensor. Screw the base of an AC light adapter into the sensor's socket. Screw the bulb into the socket on the AC light adapter.

    • 2

Strip 1 1/2 inches from the ends of the two wires attached to a 120 volt buzzer, using wire strippers. Pull out the cardboard backing from the back of the AC plug. Push the two wires from the buzzer through the hole in the cardboard backing.

    • 3

Loosen the two screws inside the plug with a Phillips screwdriver. Wind the end of a wire each around the screws. Tighten the screws. Return the cardboard backing to the back of the plug.

Insert the AC plug into the AC outlet that is on the AC light adapter. The buzzer will now sound every time the motion sensor detects movement and illuminates the light.
