ADT provides sales and service to its consumer customers, either through a corporate center or an authorized dealer. The corporate center has less freedom to change the rules, while a dealer may offer specials and discounts that are unique to that area.
A standard ADT home security system comes with 2 door sensors, a wireless sensor and a main control panel. The equipment is free and the installation must be paid for by the homeowner. A contract for a fee-based monthly monitoring is signed by the homeowner. Additional equipment for extra doors, windows, fire and carbon dioxide is available to the homeowner for an extra charge. Often a lower equipment price can be negotiated with the dealer.
When the alarm is triggered, a signal is sent to the monitoring station, which immediately calls the home to check if the alarm was sent by accident or if there is a real emergency. If necessary, the monitoring station notifies the local police or fire department.
