How to Block a Wireless Alarm

A wireless alarm uses a built-in Wi-Fi network to connect sensors placed throughout the home with a "command center" control panel. A defective alarm sensor can cause the wireless alarm system to function erratically, sending out false alarm signals that can disturb the home's inhabitants as well as inure them to a real threat. To block or disable the alarm sensor that is causing the wireless alarm to be set off, disconnect it from the system altogether as this won't shut down the entire system. The procedure is similar whether the sensor is connected to a window or door, although there are slight variations between the two. A few household tools are all that is needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter the correct password into the wireless alarm system's control panel. Disarm the wireless alarm system temporarily by performing the necessary command sequence in the menus. This procedure will vary, depending on the make of the system, and may require contacting an off-site monitoring service first to inform them that the system is being disabled.

    • 2

Open a window that is being protected by an alarm sensor. Remove the screws from around the sensor plate attached to the bottom of the window with a Phillips screwdriver. If the plate is glued to the bottom of the window, insert an edge of a putty knife beneath the plate at one corner, lift up and pull the sensor off.

    • 3

Remove the sensor plate receiver that is on the windowsill in the same way you removed the sensor plate.

    • 4

Remove the screws holding the alarm transmitter to the wall next to or under the windowsill -- use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. Place the transmitter and the attached sensor plate receiver and the sensor plate aside if you want to keep them.

    • 5

Open a door that is being protected by an alarm sensor. Remove the screws from around the sensor plate attached to the bottom edge of the door with a Phillips screwdriver. If the plate is glued, insert an edge of a putty knife beneath the plate at one corner, lift up and pull the sensor off.

    • 6

Remove the sensor plate receiver on the bottom edge of the door frame, facing the edge of the door, in the same way you removed the sensor plate.

    • 7

Remove the screws holding the alarm transmitter to the wall next to the door frame, using the Phillips screwdriver. Place the transmitter and the attached sensor plate receiver and the sensor plate aside if you want to keep them.

    • 8

Remove the alarm sensor that is being disconnected from the alarm system on the appropriate "syncing" menu page on the control panel's LCD screen. Return to the main menu and rearm the system by entering the password. Contact the off-site monitoring station, if there is one, to inform them that the wireless alarm system is once again active.
