Go to the fuse box and trip the circuit breaker that supplies electricity to the room where you will be wiring the motion detector switch.
Remove the screws from the light switch wall paint with a Phillips screwdriver or a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver--depending on the make of the wall plate.
Pull the wall plate off the wall. Push the light switch out from the center of the wall plate. Place the wall plate aside. Remove the screws holding the light switch to the wall with a Phillips screwdriver.
Pull the light switch towards you to bring the wires attached to it from inside a hole in the wall. Remove the screw-tab connectors that are over the twisted pairs of wires--a counter-clockwise motion of the screw-tab connectors will do the job. Place the connectors in your pocket for later. Separate the wires from each other. Place the light switch aside.
Wire the already-stripped ends of the motion detector switch to the exposed ends of the wires coming out of the wall in the following manner: the black wire from the wall to the black wire from the switch; the red wire from the wall to the red wire from the switch; the yellow wire from the wall to the yellow wire from the switch.
Place a screw-tab connector over each of the twisted pairs of wires. Screw the connector onto the wires with a clockwise motion until resistance is felt.
Push the wires into the wall. Place the motion detector switch over the hole, on the wall. Screw wood screws through the holes in the switch and into the wall using a Phillips screwdriver or Phillips jeweler's screwdriver, depending on the make of the switch. Restore the electric power.
