Open a window in the home that will be protected by the wired alarm system. Screw a mounting plate to the underside of the window and a receiving plate to the windowsill beneath the plate using wood screws and a Phillips screwdriver.
Run the cable attached to the receiving plate across the baseboard of the wall until you reach the bedroom where the wired alarm control will be placed. Staple the cable to the baseboard using a staple gun. Be careful not to staple through the cables.
Place the wired alarm control on an end table by the bed. Plug the control's power cord into a wall outlet. Plug the mini-jack at the end of the cable into an input connection on the wired alarm control.
Open a door that will be protected. Screw a mounting plate to the outside bottom edge of the door and a receiving plate to the inside bottom edge of the door frame using wood screws and a Phillips screwdriver.
Run the cable attached to the receiving plate across the baseboard of the wall until you reach the wired alarm control. Staple the cable to the baseboard using a staple gun.
Plug the mini-jack at the end of the cable into an input connection on the wired alarm control.
Repeat all the steps just completed with additional doors and windows that are to be protected. Rotate the volume knob fully clockwise or slide the selector switch all the way to the right -- depending on the wired alarm's manufacturer -- to set the alarm to its highest setting so it will be loud if set off by a door or window being opened.
