How to Negotiate a Monthly Monitoring Fee With Brinks Home Security System

Brinks used to be one of the most prominent names in the home security business. The company changed its name to Broadview in 2009 and then was purchased by Tyco in 2010. Tyco already owned Broadview competitor ADT, and it merged the two companies after the purchase to create a home security conglomerate. There are many Brinks systems still in service, and most are now monitored by ADT monitoring stations. You need to contact ADT if you wish to negotiate monitoring fees for your existing Brinks home system.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your local monitoring station. Most Brinks systems are now covered by ADT monitoring stations because of the merger between the two companies.

    • 2

Ask to speak to a manager, since a regular operator won't have the authority to negotiate your rates as much as a manager will.

    • 3

Explain the type of system you have and that you want monthly monitoring. From there, you can work out the monthly rates and what services will be provided. Be firm in how much you can afford to pay to avoid going over budget. Find out if you have to sign a contract, and whether the contract requires that you have the service for a set number of months.

    • 4

Get the agreement in writing to verify that you agree with all the terms and conditions prior to the start of your monitoring service.
