Find out the two-digit code for the window sensor you want to bypass. You may find this number in the ''zone information'' section of your user manual or by using your alarm system's keypad. For instance, most Honeywell alarm systems display zone numbers by pressing "*" on the keypad.
Turn off your alarm system. You cannot bypass a detector when the system is activated. Enter the zone number of the window you wish to bypass by following your manual's instruction. This may vary from model to model. For instance, many ADT alarms require that you enter "*" to access the function menu and then "1" to enter the bypass mode followed by the two-digit code of the sensor you want to bypass.
Wait for the alarm system to confirm the desired detector by the window has been bypassed. This is done by displaying text confirming the specific zone has been bypassed and may be accompanied by a tone. You may now work in the zone as needed without the alarm going off.
Turn the window detector back on by reentering the two-digit code. The alarm system will announce that the the zone has resumed to normal status. The zone should be back to active when the system is armed again, however this may vary by model.
