How to Turn Off the Sound During Disarming a Home Alarm

Home-alarm systems come in many forms and setups. One common component of home-alarm systems is the sound emitted when the alarm is triggered. Many alarms start off with a low-warning beep or tone for a short amount of time, indicating the alarm has been triggered. Disarming the alarm quickly stops the tone and prevents the system from activating the full-fledged alarm sirens and sending signals to a call center or law enforcement. Essentially, disarming the alarm turns off the sound.

Instructions

    • 1

Quickly locate the alarm keypad control -- often mounted on a wall on the inside of the building near the entrance. On most alarms, a lower beep or tone emits for a short period of time before initializing the full loud alarm.

    • 2

Pull down the plastic flap covering the keypad if one covers the keypad.

    • 3

Enter the code provided to you by the alarm company, or one set by you, and press either "Disarm" or the "#" key. Wait to ensure the beeping or low tone stops. If it does not, attempt to reenter the code.
