Enter the control panel password in the physical keypad attached to the control panel or on the virtual keypad on the control panel's LCD screen, depending on which input device the alarm has.
Navigate to the "Reset" or "System Default" menu setting. The actual name may vary due to differences in manufacturers.
Activate the menu setting to put the alarm into "Reset" mode. Reenter the default password to arm the system so it is again functioning.
Enter the password on the keypad connected to the alarm's control box to disarm the system. If there is a virtual keypad on the control panel's LCD screen, use this instead.
Remove the screws holding the cover plate on the control panel, using the Phillips screwdriver or a jeweler's screwdriver. Pull off the cover.
Use the screwdriver to loosen the screws on the cover plates inside the control panel that the sensor wires are wrapped around. Unwrap the sensor wires from the screws.
Shake a can of electrical lubricating spray for five seconds. Spray a two-second burst on each of the screws.
Twist the wires back around the screws and tighten the screws. Close the cover plate and enter the password to arm the alarm.
Disarm the alarm system by entering the password on the keypad attached to the control panel or in a wall plate.
Flip the circuit breaker at the fuse box that supplies the control panel with power.
Open the control panel's cover. If screws are holding the cover on, remove the screws with the screwdriver. Loosen the two screws on the battery backup inside the control panel.
Twist off the wires or pull the wire lead caps off the battery, depending on the make of the control panel. Let five minutes pass before reattaching the wires to the battery. Close the control panel cover and reattach the screws, if applicable.
Enter the password in the keypad to arm the system, now that is has been reset. Restore electric power at the fuse box.
