How to Install Magnetic Closed Circuit Door Sensors

A door can be protected by a home security system that utilizes magnetic, closed circuit door sensors. The sensors attach to the door and door frame and trigger a signal to the alarm should the door be opened or removed from its hinges. Installing the magnetic closed circuit door sensors is a straightforward process and requires just household tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door from the inside that is to be alarmed with the magnetic closed circuit door sensors.

    • 2

Place an electronic stud finder against the bottom edge of the doorjamb. Press in on the finder as you drag it up the side of the doorjamb. Stop moving the finder when you hear a beep. Make an "X" mark with a pencil at the spot where the finder beeped.

    • 3

Place the back of the magnetic closed circuit door sensor over the "X" on the wall. Align the sensor so that its right side is against the side of the doorjamb. Install wood screws through the pre-drilled holes in both the top and bottom of the sensor with a Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 4

Close the door. Draw an imaginary line from the center of the right side of the sensor over to the door's edge. Place an "X" mark on the door edge at this spot. Open the door.

    • 5

Place the back of the magnetic closed circuit door switch sensor against the door over the "X" mark. Align the switch sensor so that half of it overlaps the door's edge.

    • 6

Install wood screws through the pre-drilled holes in the top and bottom of the switch sensor and into the door with the Phillips head screwdriver. Close the door. The magnetic closed circuit door sensors are now ready to be connected to the home security system.
