Carbon Monoxide Alarm Installation

Carbon monoxide, or CO, is a poisonous gas emitted by some gas-supplied furnaces and water heaters. Some states require each home to have a carbon monoxide alarm. Additionally, having a CO alarm installed in a home can lower the home's insurance rate. It is important to choose a correct location for the alarm, especially near any sleeping quarters and on each floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the alarm from the base by rotating it counterclockwise.

    • 2

Insert three AA batteries into the back of the unit.

    • 3

Choose an appropriate location for the alarm. Never install the alarm in a corner. Wall corners and the corners where ceilings meet walls are dead air space.

Hold the mounting plate up to the location and mark the two mounting holes.

    • 5

Drill pilot holes into the marked areas with a drill and an appropriately sized drill bit.

    • 6

Hammer the included anchors into the two drilled holes.

    • 7

Attach the mounting plate to the location with the included screws.

    • 8

Attach the alarm to the mounting plate by rotating it onto the groove clockwise.

    • 9

Press the 'Test" button to ensure that the alarm is working properly.

    • 10

Replace the batteries every 7 years.
