How to Delete ADT Master Code

ADT provides home security systems and services for homeowners and business owners. All ADT alarm systems -- and even those manufactured by other companies -- have a master code. The master code is a universal code the installer knows, so they can program and install the alarm system. After installation, it is recommended you change it to ensure your home security system code is only known to you and those you choose. Directions can vary significantly depending on the model of your alarm system, but most will follow the same general steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the user's manual for the ADT alarm system you have. Read the procedures to change the master code. Follow any specific steps included with the manual to change the master code.

    • 2

Enter your current master code. For some models, if your system shows Press (5) for Access Codes -- enter "5" first, then enter your master code.

    • 3

Press "8" followed by "1" and enter your new four digit master code.

Enter the new four digit master code to confirm it.

In systems that showed -- Press (5) for Access Codes -- you must use the arrow keys to navigate to "[#] to Edit User Code" then press "#" to select it.

Now you can enter in your new four digit master code.

Press "#" to exit the menu. The keypad will beep signifying the code has been changed.
