Make an old-fashioned alarm system by stringing a wire in front of your doors and window areas. Tie small bells onto the wire. When someone enters and trips over the wire, the bells will alert you to someone entering.

Add a motion detector light outside the windows or doors of your house. When someone enters and walks into your home, the light will come on and alert you to his presence. You may also consider installing a motion light detector inside your own home.

Set up a webcam in front of your door and connect it to your computer in another room. Use a software program such as Yawcam to capture the video on your computer. Watch your computer monitor to see if someone is entering your home.

Make your door squeaky to detect when anyone enters. Take out the hinges to your door and clean them with brake cleaner. Hit them once with a hammer to make at least one of them slightly bent. Do not hit too hard to ensure the hinges will go back together.

Hang wind chimes directly above your door or windows. Position them around head height so anyone entering will brush up against them and create a noise.
