Contact your security company and let it know that you're going to change the backup battery. The alarm company representative will verify your identity and request your alarm password. The representative will then place the system in test mode to prevent an alarm being raised when the system loses all power.
Go to the Honeywell control panel, which is usually located in a utility or laundry room. The panel usually has the security company's logo on it. Once you locate the control panel, go to your fuse box to cut power to the control panel.
Turn off the circuit breaker for the power to the Honeywell control panel to prevent an accidental electric shock. Return to the Honeywell control panel.
Open the control panel cover by using the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the cover to the base. You will see the battery when you remove the cover.
Pull the battery out of the battery compartment and carefully remove the connections from the top of the battery terminals. Remember which connection attaches to each battery terminal.
Attach the connections to the terminals at the top of the new battery the same way they were attached to the old battery. Place the new battery into the battery compartment.
Place the security cover back on the base and replace the screws to secure the cover. Turn the circuit breaker back on. Contact your security company to let them know that you have replaced the battery.
