What Happens If I Have Technical Issues With My ADT Alarm System?

An ADT alarm system is a private security system that can be installed in homes and businesses. The ADT company provides a number of services and security packages, such as home climate control and 24-hour protection. If the system does not work, there are a number of actions a homeowner or business owner can do to solve their problem.
  1. Motion Detector Issues

    • It is important to rule out an entire system-wide issue with the alarm system. To do this, check the motion detectors across the property. The motion detectors may be malfunctioning and may require a technician to fix the problems. A property owner can see if the detectors are working by moving their hands or body by the motion detectors and see if the alarm goes off at all. If they are not going off, then a technician needs to be called in to fix the sensors (See Reference 2).

    Keypad Issues

    • Sometimes the keypad may inform the home owner that the security system is not properly working or "not ready" to activate. The most common reason for this is because some feature of the alarm system, like door sensors, are not on properly. A home owner or property owner should make sure all the doors and windows of the building are closed. This should allow the keypad to signal to the alarm system that the facility is ready to be armed.

    Low Back-Up Batteries

    • An ADT system is backed by a battery that will keep the system on if there is a power outage. However, if the battery is low, then the back-up system will not be activated when a power outage occurs. Usually, the battery will send a signal to ADT concerning its low powers. If the property owner is concerned over their battery's energy, the owner can contact the Customer Monitoring Center. This center will be able to tell the consumer if the battery is low. Consistently checking this battery will make sure that, during a power outage, the alarm system will work for a few hours.

    Touch Pad Use

    • If an alarm is sounding when nothing is wrong or there are constant errors that are causing emergency contacts to be informed about the property, you may need to turn off the system. ADT does not control the system and its power directly from their offices. Instead, ADT recommends that property owners press the off button on the touch pad. This is the only way to disconnect the ADT security system from being activated. The owner should then contact a technician who could solve the problem more in depth.
