DMP XR40 Installation

The Digital Monitoring Products XR40 is a powerful command processor panel designed for monitoring up to nine burglary and fire zones at any given moment. The panel communicates with smoke detectors, latching devices and alarm panels using a wireless Radionics modem. Installing an XR40 requires electrical work, but the panel is set effectively, making wiring straightforward. The entire procedure requires a few common tools and a full day's work; however, installing the system yourself will save considerable money.

Instructions

    • 1

Mount the control panel, preferably near the main circuit breaker box, by opening the lid and drilling four mounting screws with a drill and Philips drill bit through the holes located in each inside corner into wall studs.

    • 2

Remove the lids from the three keypads by pinching the left and right edges and pulling straight up. Mount each keypad close to the entrances of your home for simple activation and deactivation, preferably at the front entrance, garage entrance and backdoor entrance. Mount the keypads by drilling a mounting screw through each of the holes found in the inside corners.

    • 3

Wire the positive terminal of each of the three batteries with the red 18-gauge wire provided by backing out the terminal screw halfway and coiling the wire around the screw. Secure the wires in place when coiled by fastening the terminal screw down to pinch the wire. Wire the negative terminals with the black 18-gauge wire.

    • 4

Run the wires to the main control panel. Trim the three red wires, if you have excess, with a pair of wire cutters and connect the wires together using a red wire connector provided. Trim and connect the three back wires using a black wire connector.

    • 5

Connect the single red wire running out of the red wire connector to the terminal marked "3" in the command processor panel by backing out the screw halfway, coiling the wire around it and fastening the screw down onto the wire. Connect the single black wire to the terminal marked "4."

    • 6

Connect one end of the green grounding wire to the terminal "4" in the command processor panel. Connect the other end of the green wire to a metal cold water pipe or a metal grounding rod.

    • 7

Connect one end of a 16-gauge wire to the "1" terminal in the command processor panel and connect another 16-gauge wire to the "2" terminal. Connect both wires to the two terminals on the provided transformer; it doesn't matter which wire gets connected to which terminal.

    • 8

Connect terminals "5" and "6" on the command processor panel to the two alarm circuit wires. Mount the alarm in an area where the sound will not get muffled, by drilling mounting screws through the holes found on each inside corner.

    • 9

Plug the transformer into a VAC outlet with a ground fault interrupter switch. Mount the smoke detectors and latch monitors around your home in areas you want monitored.

    • 10

Use the command processor panel to program and set up each security zone, now that the system is fully installed.
