How to Change the Batteries in an ADT Home Unit

Your ADT home security unit uses batteries as a backup should the power go out for an extended period of time. Typically, it is not necessary for the homeowner to change the batteries as ADT provides this service with a contract. Sometimes the battery goes bad at the most inopportune time, and the alarm chirps until the battery is replaced. Changing the batteries in an ADT home unit varies depending on the exact system; however, the general process is the same.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat head screwdriver
  • Replacement battery pack (lynxrchkit-sc)
  • 9- or 3-volt batteries

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the two locking tabs on the top edge of the base unit. Insert a small flat head screwdriver into each slot and slightly twist the screwdriver handle to disengage the tabs. Lower the front of the base unit down to access the battery pack.

    • 2

Disconnect the battery pack wire connector from the unit. The wire connector simply pulls straight off. Pull the battery pack with the wires away from the unit.

    • 3

Insert a replacement battery into the battery holder and push the wire connector into the base of the unit. Close the front of the base unit.

    • 4

Slide a screwdriver into the small slot between the front and back of the wireless motion detectors. Pry the front of the detector off to access the battery.

    • 5

Pull the old 9- or 3-volt battery out of the motion detector and replace it with a new one of the same size. Push the front of the motion detector onto the base until it snaps into place.
