How to Install SpectrAlert Advance P2R Horn Strobes

The SpectrAlert P2R is an interior/exterior building evacuation notification and guide. Typically triggered by a fire alarm or other emergency event warning, the P2R provides both audio and visual alert in the form of a high-decibel horn and a flashing strobe light. It is designed for installation as part of a 12-volt or 24-volt loop circuit comprising multiple alert devices. The P2R utilizes common 4-inch-square electrical junction boxes for mounting and interconnects with the alarm control panel and other alert devices via a two-conductor alarm field wire previously routed through the junction boxes.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect power to the alarm system.

    • 2

Remove the cover plate from the junction box.

    • 3

Cut the two-conductor alarm field wire in the junction box. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from both ends of the wire.

    • 4

Connect the input wires coming from the fire/security alarm control panel or prior horn/strobe alert device to the screw terminals on the P2R mounting plate. The negative (-) wire connects to terminal 1, and the positive (+) wire connects to terminal 2.

    • 5

Connect the output wires leading to the next horn/strobe alert device to the screw terminals on the P2R mounting plate. The negative (-) wire connects to terminal 1, and the positive (+) wire connects to terminal 3.

    • 6

Place the mounting plate against the junction box. Secure the mounting plate to the junction box with two screws inserted in holes at diagonal corners of the mounting plate.

    • 7

Hook the tabs located on the back of the P2R horn/strobe alert device into the grooves on the mounting plate. Pivot the P2R unit down and engage the metal contact pins on the back of the unit with the terminal screws.

Secure the P2R to the mounting plate by tightening the mounting screw on the bottom front of the unit.
