Troubleshooting Titan Deadbolts

Installing a Titan deadbolt lock on your door can help keep your family safe or your business safe from burglars. Deadbolt locks are designed to be much more difficult to pick or break than traditional locks, but this protection only works if the lock is functioning properly. Taking the time to test your Titan deadbolt and repair it if necessary is vital.
  1. Check the Bolt

    • If you suspect that your Titan deadbolt lock is not working properly, the first thing you should do is open the door and extend the bolt. The bolt should not slide easily when the door is ajar. If it does, the problem is likely with the door itself and not the Titan deadbolt lock. Over time, the tight seal between the door and the doorjamb can be reduced, and if the door no longer fits securely in the jamb the deadbolt lock cannot do its job. You may need to reseat the door on its hinges to realign the lock.

    Stopgap Measure

    • Even if you suspect that the door and the doorjamb no longer fit tightly together, you may be able to repair the Titan deadbolt by adjusting the screws that hold it in place. There are, of course, other reasons for fixing the door itself, including energy efficiency and overall safety. Moving the Titan deadbolt should be a stopgap measure to protect your home until you can have the door repaired.

    Inspect the Deadbolt

    • To troubleshoot the Ttian deadbolt and help it work more efficiently, first remove the screws on each side of the doorknob. These screws hold the doorknob assembly in place. Remove the deadbolt mechanism and look for any broken parts. Shake the Titan deadbolt lightly while holding it over a shallow bowl to catch any loose parts that fall out. If you see any parts come out, you know you need to replace those parts to get the deadbolt working again. If no broken or loose parts are present, the deadbolt may simply need lubrication. Spray the interior of the lock with a quality spray lubricant, then reassemble the doorknob and try the lock again.

    Replace the Lock

    • If repairing and lubricating the lock has not fixed the problem, the best solution may be to simply replace the entire lock rather than to rely on a lock that might not work properly.
