The Trouble Alarm Will Not Silence on a Honeywell Fire System Panel

The Honeywell fire system panel provides you with complete control over your alarm system. When the trouble alarm sounds because of a problem with the system, it is necessary for you to use the silence button to shut off the alarm. However, when this button does not work, you need to reprogram the system to accept the commands of the silence button.
  1. New or Old Installation

    • It is important for you to first know whether you are dealing with an old installation or a new one. If it is an old installation and the button previously worked, you may need a new panel or new wires. However, if the installation is new, you may only need to reprogram the panel so the silence button works. Reprogramming your fire system panel is easier than replacing the entire panel or the interior wires, so you can also try that first with an old installation to ensure the program wasn't changed.

    Reprogramming

    • To reprogram your Honeywell fire system panel to accept the silence feature for the trouble alarm, you need the programming key. Insert the key into the control panel to allow you to change the programming. Press 123-1231 and then the "Enter" key to program the panel for the silence feature. Press 3 after you press the "Enter" key to save the program into the system. If you don't press 3 afterward, the program will revert back to its prior settings. After you save the new settings, remove the programming key.

    Disabled

    • If reprogramming the fire system panel isn't successful, open up the panel to ensure the silence feature wasn't disabled. When you open the system, you need to look for the relay labeled "JP2." If there is no jumper attached to this relay, the signal silence inhibit has been disabled. To re-enable this feature so you can use the silence feature for the trouble alarm, you must replace the jumper. If you no longer have one from the original installation, you may be able to find one at a hardware store or by contacting Honeywell.

    Replacement

    • Because proper wiring is crucial to the functionality of the Honeywell fire system panel to get help when you need it, you may not want to attempt to replace it yourself. However, if you are experienced with electronics, you can begin by replacing the existing wires within the panel to ensure it isn't a damaged wire. If that doesn't work, you will need to replace the entire panel, which you must purchase from Honeywell to ensure compatibility with your system.
