Instructions for a GE Smart Home Driveway Alarm

If you want to know when cars pull into your driveway before people ring the doorbell -- or, worse, before they come in and help themselves to your property -- install a GE SmartHome Driveway Alarm system. Installation and setup is quick. Within minutes, you'll know as soon as a car passes the threshold of your driveway. The system has a magnet that is triggered by large, metal objects, so it won't trip if an animal or person on foot passes the transmitter.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the back plate of the sensor unit -- the one that will be placed at the end of your driveway. Insert two C batteries. Replace the cover and tighten the screws.

    • 2

Slide the top of the mounting stake onto the stake extender until it clicks into place. Slide the sensor unit onto the top of the mounting stake. Drive the pointed bottom of the stake extender into the ground at least 6 inches. Turn the unit so that the front faces the side of your driveway.

    • 3

Place the indoor receiver unit on a windowsill facing the sensor unit at the end of the driveway. Position it as close to the sensor unit as possible inside your house. The sensor has a range of up to 400 feet, but this can be drastically reduced by obstructions, such as trees, as well as outside interference. To wall-mount the receiver unit, install a screw into your wall, leaving about 1/4 inch exposed. Slide the unit's keyhole slot over the screw and push down to lock it in place. Plug the unit's power cord into a wall electrical outlet.

    • 4

Press the "Reset" button when the chime alarms and the green light appears, notifying you that a car has passed the driveway threshold. This places the unit back in standby mode, so it can notify you of the next vehicle.

    • 5

Turn the knob located on the top right side of the receiver unit to adjust the chime's volume.

    • 6

Change the batteries in the outdoor sensor unit when a red light appears on the indoor receiver unit. The sensor unit notifies the receiver unit when it's low on power.
