Help With the System Panel on a Honeywell Home Alarm

A home security system gives you peace of mind whether you and your family are in or out of the house. Honeywell offers various residential security systems, with the system panel as the heart of the operation. In addition to burglar alarms, Honeywell security systems also act as smoke or carbon dioxide detectors. Information on changing settings on a system panel is found in the owner's manual. For additional help with a system panel, contact the dealer.
  1. System Panel

    • The system panel, also known as the control panel, works as the alarm system's central computer. The panel -- generally found in an out-of-the-way place such as the basement or a closet or otherwise hidden from view -- connects with sensors scattered throughout the dwelling. Programmed to detect various stimuli, these sensors notify the system panel. The system panel then contacts the central monitoring station via telephone, alerting law enforcement or emergency authorities that a problem exists on the premises.

    Keypads

    • Once the security system is in place, access to the house depends on the security code -- known as the master code -- entered on the system's keypad. The keypads are usually located at entry doors. Choose illuminated keypads for easy night visibility. The Honeywell keypads feature displays updating the system's status. You can turn off your Honeywell system by entering the master code and pressing the "Off" button.

    Changing Codes

    • To change your master code, enter the current master code, then press "8" and enter "02." At that point, enter the new master code two consecutive times. A beep from the keypad confirms the changing of the master code. You may allow up to 30 different codes for people accessing the house, ranging from number 03 to 32. To add a user code, enter the master code, then press "9" and enter "03." Enter your master code, press "8," enter "03," then enter the new user code.

To delete a user code, enter the master code and press "8." Enter the code number for deletion, from 03 to 32, then press the "#" key and "zero" for deletion.

    Stay and Away

    • Once inside the house, press the "Stay" button on the panel to turn on the system. Once the stay button is activated, it bypasses the dwelling's motion detectors. Use the "Away" button to turn on the system when leaving and no one else is staying in the house. This command activates all the motion detectors. For either mode, enter the particular code before pressing the button. After pressing the "Away" button, you have 45 seconds to leave the house. If the system is in stay mode and you want to leave the house, press the "Exit" button. You then have two minutes to leave the building. To program for longer or shorter exit times, consult a Honeywell technician at the time of installation.
