How to Build Your Own Fire Sprinkler Training Props

Fire departments, emergency workers and other professionals use sprinkler props to train for an emergency situation. The props can be either low value or high value depending on the practice performed and the desired skill set. You can practice for fire safety drills by making your own prop sprinkler. This will mimic sprinklers on the ceiling of a building in a real-life situation.

Things You'll Need

  • Lumber hanger bar
  • 2 plumbing elbows
  • 2 long galvanized pipes
  • Gate valve
  • Sprinkler head
  • garden hose

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a hanger bar or build one. Construct the bar by making two large triangles from lumber. Each triangle should be approximately 6 or 7 feet high at its peak. Nail the tops of each of the triangles to ends of a 10-foot piece of lumber that will stretch between them.

    • 2

Screw the gate valve to one plumbing elbow and connect that to a galvanized pipe going straight up to the peak of one of your triangles.

    • 3

Screw on another plumbing elbow to the top of the galvanized pipe. Face the open end in the direction of the center of your hanger bar structure. Screw another galvanized pipe onto the open plumbing elbow.

    • 4

Attach the sprinkler onto the end of the open galvanized pipe by screws or by twisting it into place.

    • 5

Hook the garden hose into the gate valve. When you are ready, turn on the hose to feed water into the sprinkler.
