How to Wire a Utilitech Water Pump

If there are low-lying areas of your basement or cellar that are susceptible to flooding during storms, a sump pump is one option that can keep these areas dry. The Utilitech water pump is a water and sump pump manufactured by Utilitech and commonly sold at Lowes Home Improvement stores. The Utilitech pump is meant to be installed the sump pit, or basin. Wiring and hooking up the plumbing to the pit will take approximately 2 hours.

  • Pipe wrench
  • PVC glue
  • PVC riser

Instructions

      Disconnect the old pump from the wall and from existing PVC pipe connections. Pull the old pump out of the sump pit basin.

      Connect a male PVC adapter to the pump's discharge port with a pipe wrench.

      Spread PVC glue to the bottom of a PVC riser and then slide the glued end into the discharge port adapter. The length of PVC riser should be at least a foot higher than the sump pit.

      Tape the electrical cord of the pump along the length of the PVC riser pipe.

      Plug the Utilitech pump into a 120-volt wall socket to wire it with power.
