How to Flatten a Curled Carpet Corner

Area rugs and carpets accent the look of any room by adding a pop of color or dimension to an otherwise plain floor. Unfortunately, as lovely as they are, many carpets and rugs tend to curl at the corners from time to time. Not only is a curled carpet corner unsightly and unattractive in any room, it is also dangerous, especially if you have a small child running around. Curled corners could cause someone to trip and fall down, injuring themselves if they are not careful. For both of these reasons it is important you flatten curled carpet corners when you notice them beginning to curl.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a heavy object such as a piece of furniture or a heavy book on top of the curled edge to help flatten it. Check the corner of the carpet every day until you determine it has adequately flattened before you remove the heavy object from the corner.

    • 2

Rub your hand over the curled corner of your carpet to try and get it to lay down flat. This method will not work on all rugs or carpets.

    • 3

Apply water to the curled corner and place a weight on it overnight to flatten it.

    • 4

Attach a small weight to the underside of the corner of the rug by sewing it on. This will keep the corner lying flat.

    • 5

Attach strong double sided tape to the underside of the corner of the rug, which will allow you to attach the corner of the carpet to the floor.
