DIY: Garage Parking Tennis Stopper

Using a tennis ball to create a do-it-yourself car stopper is an inexpensive way to enable you and any other drivers to know where to stop inside the garage. Many people store bicycles, boxes, lawn tools and other gadgets inside the garage, so space is often limited. Using a tennis ball to indicate where to stop the vehicle prevents you from running over any equipment or other stored items. The gentle thump of the tennis ball stopper also prevents distracted drivers from bumping into the garage wall accidentally.

Instructions

    • 1

Puncture an old tennis ball on one side, using a sharp awl or an ice pick.

    • 2

Cut an 8-foot piece of sturdy twine.

    • 3

Thread one end of the twine into the washer and tie a knot around the washer.

    • 4

Grasp the washer with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 5

Push the washer inside the tennis ball, using the pliers.

    • 6

Remove the needle-nose pliers from the tennis ball.

    • 7

Tug gently on the twine to ensure the washer doesn't come out of the tennis ball.

    • 8

Park the car in the garage to determine where to hang the tennis ball.

    • 9

Measure the distance from the garage floor the center of the windshield.

    • 10

Draw a pencil mark on the wall at the measurement taken in Step 9. Back the car out of the garage.

    • 11

Position your ladder in front of the mark and move the ladder even with that mark toward the center of the garage. Take the tennis ball, the scissors and heavy-duty stapler up the ladder with you.

    • 12

Ask an assistant to indicate the distance from the floor where the tennis ball should hang, using the mark on the wall for guidance.

    • 13

Staple the end of the twine to the garage ceiling. Clip off any extra twine. The tennis ball will now rest directly on the center of the windshield when you have pulled the proper distance into into your garage.
