How to Change the Passcode on a Electronic Door Lock

Electronic door locks prevent intruders entering high-security areas using a numeric code instead of a key. Often located inside a house, electronic door locks can be reprogrammed to accept a new code if the old one is discovered by someone outside your family. In some cases, to prevent unauthorized access, lock manufacturers require a special programming code to change the entry code. The programming code is usually printed on a sticker or written in the paperwork supplied with the lock.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the programming code off the cover of the lock and press the "Program" button. The lock enters programming mode.

    • 2

Enter a new code of between four and eight digits into the lock. The length of the code will depend on your particular model.

    • 3

Repeat the code if necessary. Several models of electronic lock accept replacement codes after one entry with a beep.

    • 4

Push the confirmation button, often labeled "Lock," and replace the cover of the lock. This step may not be necessary on your model.

    • 5

Test your new code; the door should accept your new code.
