How to Install an SDC 45A Lock

The Security Door Controls 45a is an electric door lock for businesses and institutions that have security controlled doors. It is wired to the existing control panel and has a reversible failsafe and failsecure system so you control whether or not the door will automatically lock during a power failure. It is compatible with door lock sets of up to 3/4-inch latchbolts, and installs on a metal, aluminum or wood door frame just like a common house lock.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws from the factory lock on the door and face plate on the door frame. Remove the lock hardware from the door and door frame.

    • 2

Position the provided mounting tabs so the holes align with the holes drilled in the door. The tabs should face toward the middle of the hole where the lock will be installed.

    • 3

Insert one of the provided screws into each hole. Tighten the screws with a Philips-head screwdriver.

    • 4

Insert the locking mechanism into the opening on the door. The side with three wire leads faces upward and the side with one wire lead faces downward. Feed the wires inside of the door.

    • 5

Connect the wire lead on the bottom to the electrical connector that leads to the main power supply.

    • 6

Connect the wire lead on the top right to the electrical connector that leads to the lock control unit. The lock control unit is either a keypad, computer, ID card swipe or another electrical component.

    • 7

Connect the wire lead on the top left to the electrical connector that leads to the control switch on the control unit.

    • 8

Insert the faceplate into the opening on the door so the holes align with the holes on the mounting tabs.

    • 9

Insert one of the provided screws into each of the holes. Hand tighten one of the provided nuts onto each screw.

    • 10

Insert one of the provided screws into the top and bottom holes on the face plate. If there are no existing screw holes in the door, use the appropriate size drill bit and drill a starter hole with a power drill before inserting the screws.

    • 11

Tighten the screws using a Philips-head screwdriver.

    • 12

Consult the control panel owner’s manual for instructions on how to program the device to control the lock.
