How to Manually Lift a Craftsman Garage

Craftsman garage doors draw power from a standard electrical outlet, making them just as susceptible to power outages as any other home appliance. Knowing how to open your Craftsman garage door manually may prove useful if your car is ever trapped in the garage as a result of a power problem. The process involves disconnecting the door from the motor and lifting the weight by hand.

     Locate the emergency release handle hanging from the track along which the trolley moves as the door is opening and closing. Ideally the door should be closed.

     Pull the release handle firmly downward to disconnect the door from the motor. Move outside your house to open the garage door.

     Unlock the garage, if necessary, and carefully lift upward to access your car. The door should hold itself up when it is fully open.
