How to Add Vinegar to Humidifier Water to Keep Away Bacterial Growth

Air in your home that is too dry may result in chapped lips, dry skin, nose bleeds or dry sinus cavities, according to the Mayo Clinic. The moist air from a humidifier helps prevent these issues and also soothe symptoms from respiratory problems such as a nagging cough. Adding a bit of vinegar to your humidifier is an effective way to reduce growth of bacteria that can result in foul odors and other health problems. Vinegar is also an effective way to disinfect the filter of this appliance.
