How to Reengage the Carriages on Garage Door Genies

Genie brand garage openers take the effort out of opening and closing your garage. The carriage -- the part of the opener that connects to the garage door and moves along the track -- can be disengaged in the event of a power failure, allowing you to exit the garage. Once the power problem has been resolved, the carriage needs to be re-engaged before the opener can be put back into service.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the plastic release handle hanging from the ceiling-mounted track diagonally toward the power head, which is the main part of the opener at the end of the track containing the lights. Pulling the handle toward the door disengages the carriage.

    • 2

Unlock the garage door and raise it by hand until the door re-engages with the carriage. You should hear a click when this happens.

    • 3

Push the open button on the garage door opener to resume normal service. Pulling the release handle downward disengages the carousel in the event of another power problem.
