How to Make a Garage Door Close When the Sensors Don't Work

The motion and object sensors connected to your garage opening system prevent the heavy metal door from lowering while there is an object in its path. For safety reasons, you cannot override the sensors to open and close the door in the event of a stoppage. You can, however, disengage the door from the opener and close it by hand. This option is useful in the event of a power failure if the door becomes stuck in the open position.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the release handle hanging from the carriage, the part of the opener that moves along the track and lifts the garage door.

    • 2

Pull the handle downward to disengage the garage door from the carriage and the opening mechanism.

    • 3

Pull the door downward until it reaches the ground. Be careful, the door might be hard to move.
