How to Align the Garage Door Safety Sensor in the Craftsman Model

The safety sensor of your Craftsman garage opener, positioned below the door, stops the appliance closing onto cars and other objects. The two parts of the sensor — the sending eye and the receiving eye — must be aligned for the garage opener to operate correctly. The green light on the back of the receiving eye glows dim, flickers or stays off if the sensors require adjustment. The light on the sending eye glows, regardless of alignment.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the light on the back of the receiving light. The LED will be glowing brightly when the sensors are aligned.

    • 2

Loosen the wing nut mounting the sending sensor to its support and slide it until it is pointing directly at the receiving sensor. Tighten the nut.

    • 3

Loosen the wing nut at the back of receiving sensor and move it until the green light glows steadily, then tighten the nut.

    • 4

Test the opener. The door should reverse if anything breaks the invisible beam between the sending and receiving sensors.
