Hiding Electrical Cords on the Floor

With all the items such as lamps, electronics, and gadgets in American homes today, you're bound to have electrical cords on the floor. Besides looking unsightly, these cords can also be tripping hazards, especially if they're located in the traffic path of a room. Cords on the floor can also be a dangerous invitation to curious young children who may want to play with them, and, in so doing, pull down an item that's plugged in, causing serious injury. In addition, pets sometimes chew on electrical cords they can reach. All of these are excellent reasons to hide cords.

Instructions

    • 1

      Run the electrical cords along exterior walls. Gently press them down and tuck them between the edge of the carpet and the baseboard. Or, use colored duct tape to attach the electrical cords to the bottom of the baseboard. Choose a color that best matches the baseboard to help camouflage it.

      Install specially made attachments to the baseboard in a room to hide cords. These attachments resemble the slats of a picket fence. There's a space between the attachments and the baseboard for electrical cords to hide in.

      Install cord protectors, also known as cord concealers, to hide electrical cords that run across the floor. The cords are placed through a slot in the bottom. The protector is then secured to the floor using double-sided tape. They are generally available in neutral colors such as ivory, brown and gray. Choose a color that best matches the color of the flooring.
