Removing Snow From a Metal Roof Without Shoveling

Metal roofs are ideal for preventing damage from ice dams, and tend to be sturdier than roofs made with tiles or shingles. In light of this, extensive snow buildup can corrode metal roofs over time, and melting snow can cause dangerous icicles to form around the building’s perimeter. Walking on the roof and removing snow with a shovel can be dangerous, and traditional roof rakes can scratch and damage the surface. Remove snow safely and easily with a wheeled roof rake with an extendable handle.

Instructions

    • 1

Snap handle sections onto the rake’s handle until the handle is long enough to reach the top of the roof while standing on the ground. Additional 6-foot-handle sections should come with the rake, or may be purchased from the rake’s manufacturer.

    • 2

Use a bungee cord to connect the rake’s included chute to the last handle section.

    • 3

Push the rake over the roof from front to back and pull it back toward you. Snow will slide through the rake and down the connected chute onto the ground below.

    • 4

Continue pushing and pulling the rake until the roof is clear.
