Make sure the gun safety is on, and there are no rounds in the chamber.
Screw the jag into the cleaning rod. The jag is the metal piece that fits the barrel diameter for thorough cleaning.
Attach a flannel patch to the jag.
Saturate the flannel patch with bore solvent. Your gun shop with have a variety of solvents. Copper rounds require a stronger solvent.
Push the rod down the bore until it emerges from the other side. Pull it through.
Repeat with new flannel patches until they come out clean.
Use a fresh, dry patch to remove residual solvent, and dry the barrel.
