Crimson Trace Laser Grip 302 Vs. 402

Crimson Trace is a United States-based manufacturer of gun accessories with clients including law enforcement, the U.S. military and gun hobbyists. The company manufactures two laser sites suitable for installation on Beretta handguns. The model 302 is the original offering, with dual activation pads. The 402 was later released to upgrade the 302 to meet military specifications.
  1. Application

    • Crimson Trace 302 and 402 models are both manufactured for use on Beretta model 92, 96 and M9 series handguns. The 302 was introduced as both a consumer and law enforcement product. The series 402 was introduced in 2007 as an upgraded version of the 302, designed to meet military specification number MIL-STD-810F. The upgraded 402 model complies with military regulations requiring performance in harsh combat environments that may include exposure to dust, fog, salt and water.

    Activation

    • The major feature change from the 302 to the 402 is the activation siting. The activation mechanism requires finger pressure to activate use of the laser siter. On the 302 model laser siter, there are dual activation pads, one on either side of the grip. The 402 model was introduced with a single activation pad located on the front of the grip.

    Additional Features

    • The 402 model laser siter features several enhancements not available on the 302. In addition to meeting military specification, the 402 features two wear points, one on either side of the grip, to increase product durability. The 402 also features a more aggressive grip texture for improved handling both bare handed and gloved and for better grip in wet conditions.

    Purchasing

    • The original 302 laser site is available for purchase both directly from the manufacturer as well as through gun accessory dealers. As of publication, the list price of the 302 series from Crimson is $329. The 402 laser site is also available through Crimson directly and through accessory dealers and is list priced at $399. Both the 302 and the 402 can be purchased with an infrared laser, but this option is available only to approved military clients.
