How to Mount a KidCo Hearth Gate

KidCo hearth gates come with different sections to make a gate as big or as small as needed to cover the space in front of the fireplace or heat source. The gate doesn't fit directly in front of the hearth; instead, it is installed at least 20 inches away from all sides of the fireplace. Once you lay out where you want to place the gate, the only steps left are to install the wall mounts and mount it to the wall. KidCo provides a wall plate that connects to the wall and the gate is secured to the wall plate. Installation primarily requires that you tighten the screws into both the wall plate and the gate locking assembly to secure it properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the wall cover around the bar on the end of the gate. Position the lock fitting onto the wall cover.

    • 2

Place the three wall cover screws into the holes on the assembly. Tighten them loosely to keep them in place.

    • 3

Center the assembly buttons in the wall plate holes, then push the buttons into the holes. Slide down the assembly to lock it into place. Install the wall mounting on the opposite end, following the same steps.

    • 4

Move the gate to the front of the hearth and lay each end of the gate against the wall, at least 20 inches from the sides of the hearth. The handle should be on the top.

    • 5

Mark on the wall with a pencil where the screw holes are located on the wall plate. Space the screws evenly for the safest fit.

    • 6

Press the locking tab on the wall plate/locking assembly. Lift off the wall plate.

    • 7

Position the wall plate's screw holes against the marked screw holes on the wall.

    • 8

Tighten the screws through the holes in the wall plate with the screwdriver until they are secure. The screws included with the gate are only appropriate for wood surfaces. If mounting the gate into brick or other surfaces, use the appropriate hardware such as masonry anchors and a drill fitted with a concrete drill bit.

    • 9

Push the locking assembly and gate into the wall plate until everything locks into place.

    • 10

Tighten the screws into the locking assembly on the side of the gate until they are secure.

    • 11

Repeat installing the wall plate and locking assembly on the opposite end of the gate and wall.
