How to Super Lock a Door

A Super Lock is a deadbolt-style device that locks exterior doors so they are nearly pick-proof and force-proof. The lock system attaches to the inside frame of the door and distributes any force over a large area of the door. The distrubution of force makes it impossible for a would-be intruder to merely kick the door inward. Once installed on the frame of the door, the Super Lock prevents the door from being opened past the door frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the faceplate of the Super Lock device against the door frame at eye level. Inch the faceplate closer to the opening door to make the faceplate as close to the door as possible. The open holes of the faceplate must be over the door frame.

    • 2

Mark the screw holes of the face plate against the door frame. Remove the faceplate and set it aside. Drill into each marking, making a hole 3 inches deep into the wood. The holes must be at least a half inch from the edge of the door frame to prevent cracking or breaking of the frame. Use a drill bit with a slightly smaller diameter than the 4-inch wood screws you will use.

Pass the 4-inch wood screws through each hole in the faceplate and into the holes in the door frame. Tighten each screw halfway until all three are partially installed. Check the faceplate again to ensure it does not interfere with the door operation. Tighten the screws the rest of the way.

Position the Super Lock device over the faceplate. Grab one end of the thin chain hanging off the device and mark an installation position. This is where the device hangs when it is not in use. Drill a hole for this installation. To attach the other end of the chain to the wall, drill a 1-inch wood screw through the end of the chain and into the hole.
