Instructions

  1. Remove Baldwin Keyset

    • 1

Open the door and locate the screws that hold the Baldwin doorknob in place. These screws are located on the door, generally on the interior side of the door; however, some Baldwin keysets contain screws on both sides of the doorknob.

    • 2

Locate the deadlatch and the strike plate on the door and in the door frame. The deadlatch is located along the edge of the door and contains the piece of metal that pops out of the door and locks in place. The strike plate is located along the interior of the door frame.

    • 3

Remove the screws out of the door knob, the deadlatch, and the strike plate. Use a Phillips screwdriver to carefully remove all screws from each section, allowing you to remove the pieces of the keyset easily.

    • 4

Pry off the doorknob, deadlatch, and strike plate using a metal putty knife. Carefully insert the tip of the putty knife under each section, and lift the pieces off the door and out of the frame. Set each section aside.

    Install Medeco Keyset

    • 5

Place the strike box inside the door frame hole from where the strike plate was removed. Place the strike plate over the strike box, lining up the screw holes. Drive one screw through each hole on the strike plate to secure them in place. The lip of the strike plate should be facing toward the direction of the door. For example, if the door swings inside the home, face the lip inward.

    • 6

Insert the doorknob into the hole so that the key hole is on the exterior side of the door. Place the new deadlatch set into the hole located along the edge of the door. Insert the deadlatch through the lock body on the first doorknob installed. Place the second doorknob onto the door, lining up the screw holes contained within the two knobs.

    • 7

Drive one screw through each hole on each side of the Medeco doorknob. Rattle the doorknobs and adjust screws to a more secure fit.
