Adjust the temperature in the room where you want to install the stair tread pads. The temperature can be no lower than 70 degrees F for the 48 hours before and after installation, as well as during the installation.
Repair any damaged areas of the linoleum steps before starting the installation. This must be done to get a tight fit.
Wipe clean the area where you will install the stair tread pads. You may need a wet cloth to clean with and a dry cloth to dry the area.
Fill any cracks, holes or depressions in the linoleum with caulk or your preferred underlayment compound. Smooth it down with a hand sanding pad once it dries so that the surface is level.
Lay the stair tread pad on the steps and cut with a linoleum knife to get the proper size. The pads are large so that you can cut to fit your space.
Spread contact adhesive on the linoleum step and the underside of the stair tread pad.
Place the stair tread pad on the step, with the adhesive side down, and push down firmly from the nose of the step to the back. This is so that you do not end up with any air bubbles under the stair tread pads. Roll over the top with a hand roller to push out any remaining air bubbles and secure a tight fit. This must be repeated for each step.
Leave the stair tread pads to set up and tightly bond to the steps according to the directions on your contact adhesive. Setup time varies by product.
